Councillor thanks local NHS Trust for cancer care

Councillor Michael Doody was Chairman of Warwick District Council for 2015/16. He was asked to nominate charities for which he would be able to raise funds during his year of tenure and he chose two that were close to his heart; Prostate Cancer Research and the Urology Unit at Warwick Hospital. To raise money Councillor Doody hosted a charity Christmas concert at Leamington Town Hall and a ‘Strawberry versus Blueberry’ cake sale, he also received a number of donations.

On presenting the cheque for £2,912.03 Councillor Doody commented: “ For the past four years I have been receiving treatment from the Urology Unit at Warwick hospital and every aspect of the service I have received from the staff in this unit has been first class. I would particularly like to thank my consultant Mr Lewis. I am therefore delighted to be able to give a donation to the Urology Unit Charity Fund to support the wonderful work they do for patients in our district”.

Mr Lewis, Consultant at Warwick Hospital, said: “The money will be a great way to fund urological cancer screening materials and training, which is all part of our aim to speed up the cancer pathway”.
