Final brick in place for new hospital

Local Trust celebrates the final brick being laid at the new Stratford Hospital.

The new hospital development in the heart of Stratford is due to open in spring 2017 and will offer more NHS services to the local community of Stratford and surrounding areas.

The new hospital will house cancer services; the Rigby Unit on the top floor, which will include 12 chemotherapy treatment chairs, 2 emergency treatment rooms and a range of facilities to support patients such as a complimentary therapy room. It will also include an eye unit on the first floor with 8 outpatient consulting rooms, 3 treatment rooms with associated investigation rooms as well as a dedicated area for children to wait. The ground floor will have an MRI scanner and a Health & Wellbeing Hub, which is a facility to provide advice and information on a range of health and wellbeing services in Stratford upon Avon and the surrounding areas.

Glen Burley, Chief Executive at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust said: “It has been great working with Spellar Metcalfe on the new hospital and seeing the final brick being laid makes me realise how far the development has progressed. Stratford Hospital is going to be fantastic for communities across South Warwickshire, enabling us to deliver more services locally and I look forward to seeing our patients benefit from the first class facilities.“

John Mackay, Construction Manager at Speller Metcalfe, the contractor for the multi-million pound scheme, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be at such a key milestone for the new hospital development, which by completion will already be in high demand for patients in Stratford and further afield.”

“As our third project with The Trust, it is clear that they are fundamentally committed to providing the best care services available and we are looking forward to delivering the completed project in 2017.”

To support the new hospital development the Trust launched a £1 million fundraising appeal. The money raised from the Cancer and Eye Appeal will go towards making enhancements that will make treatment more comfortable for patients. The appeal has received fantastic support so far and has raised a staggering £807,000 to date.
