Organisations working together to develop first class medical care

A new alliance has been formed between South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) and the University of Buckingham.

To show their commitment on Wednesday 1 February 2017 both organisations signed an agreement for the Trust to provide undergraduate education and teaching to medical students from the University of Buckingham.

SWFT is committed to the continued development of the NHS workforce by providing training to all clinical disciplines. As part of this partnership the Trust will play a key role in teaching medical students throughout the four and a half years of the Buckingham curriculum. The partnership will also generate opportunities for collaboration, particularly in research and development.

Glen Burley, Chief Executive for South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Delivering medical education is vital in sustaining healthcare, so I am really pleased that the University of Buckingham has joined us to become one of our partners. I’m very proud of our undergraduate training and think that this partnership will enable us to enhance it further.”

University of Buckingham Chief Operating Officer John Clapham said: “This represents a very exciting and crucial step in the evolution of the University of Buckingham Medical School. We are honoured to be working with SWFT whose educational philosophy, values and vast experience in teaching our undergraduate medical students will be essential to our ambition of creating great doctors for the future.”

University of Buckingham Medical School opened its doors to students in 2015 with its first partner Trust, Milton Keynes University Hospital.
