Clinical health psychology

What we do

We support patients with physical health difficulties that are impacting on their emotional wellbeing. We provide specialised services to inpatients, outpatients, the community and staff. We also offer a paediatric diabetes service.

Some of the emotional, psychological, and health problems that we can help you manage include:

  • adjustment to an illness or lifelong conditions such as cancer or chronic pain
  • coping with uncertainty and change due to illness
  • feelings of depression or anxiety
  • anxiety about medical or surgical intervention eg needle phobia, operations
  • fertility and pregnancy related problems eg stillbirth, traumatic labour
  • post-traumatic stress disorder related to a medical condition

    Preparing for your appointment

    An appointment normally lasts about 50 minutes. You may have more than one, depending on your need, and it is important that you can commit to attending them regularly. During your first appointment an assessment is carried out and the course of therapy appropriate for you is discussed.
