Child development service

What we do

We assess pre-school children who show signs of having an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The Child development service (CDS) team includes staff with specialist skills in Autism including; consultant paediatrician, clinical psychologist, specialist speech and language therapist, child development adviser and lead consultant pre-school teachers (IDS).

We work with families to listen to their concerns and observe the child’s concentration, social interaction, communication, imagination, play and behaviour.

Children and parents attend appointments over a five-week period. At the end of the assessment there is a team discussion attended by all the professionals involved, and parents meet the CDS team to discuss the assessment, conclusions, recommendations, any diagnosis given, and the way forward.
