Keeping active

Whatever your age, there’s strong scientific evidence that being physically active can help you lead a healthier and even happier life. Keeping active can reduce your risk of major illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer by up to 50% and lower your risk of early death by up to 30%.

Physical activity is also good for your mental health. Experts believe that exercise releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good. Physical activity can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing your risk of mental health problems such as stress, depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

If you’re not sure about becoming active or boosting your level of physical activity because you’re afraid of getting hurt, the good news is that moderate-intensity aerobic activity, like brisk walking and climbing stairs is generally safe for most people.

There are plenty of ways to get and stay active in Warwickshire, including; the Fitter Futures Warwickshire programme. A service that is for young people aged 12 to 16 and for adults aged 16+.
