Chaplain goes from couch to 5km

Reverend Frances Tyler, Lead Chaplain at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is taking on the challenge of running her first 5km in Coventry to help raise money for the Birth & Babies Appeal.

Frances, who has never run before has been training using the popular app “Couch to 5km” in order to prepare for the Coventry Big Fun Run on 7 July. This will mark the opening of the Bluebell Birth Centre at Warwick Hospital

The Birth & Babies Appeal aims to raise £200,000 to make Warwick Hospital's new midwifery led birthing centre the best that it can be. The Chaplain hopes to raise £400 towards the appeal through sponsorship for her challenge.

Frances said: “I wanted to raise money towards a birthing pool for the new midwife led unit at Warwick Hospital as it is something that I did not have access to when I had my children and it would have made such a difference to my birth experience”.

If the Chaplain manages to reach her £400 target, this will go towards enabling the charity to buy a birthing pool, each cost £12,000.

Frances added “I hope that my challenge encourages others to try the app for beginners running, if I can do it at 63 then anyone can!”.
