Comedy night raises hundreds for cancer unit

A patient of the Aylesford Unit at Warwick hospital has hosted a comedy and music night in aid of the cancer unit.

Keith Chadwick, who has been receiving treatment at the Aylesford Unit for over a year, raised £840 on the night at his local pub, the Millwright Arms.

Keith said: “Whilst waiting for my regular clinic appointment, I noticed one of the big promotional cheques highlighting a large donation to the unit. This made me think that I should try and do something too, especially for the staff there who have been absolutely fantastic during my year’s treatment at the unit.”

This night itself involved local amateur comedians and musicians putting on a show for the large crowd who attended. The evening was filmed and a DVD of the occasion will soon be available, all proceeds will also be going to the Aylesford Unit, with the aim of raising the total to over £1000.

Carole Connor, Nurse Consultant at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, upon receiving the donation, said: “We are delighted that Keith has managed to raise so much for our unit in such a fun way, fundraising like this makes such a difference in making the environment more comfortable for patients”.

The funds will go towards enhancements to the Aylesford Unit, such as equipment for staff that help with training for inserting a cannula into veins, which is particularly important for patients who are undergoing chemotherapy.
