Developing Cardiology services at Warwick Hospital

On Tuesday 12 December, a Cardiology Conduction System Pacing Day was held at Warwick Hospital.

The Cardiology Team at South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) ran the event to introduce an innovative approach to their staff and external organisations.

As part of the event, attendees learnt about utilising traditional permanent pacemakers for heart pacing in a way that better mimics the heart’s natural contraction. The objective from this new approach is to enhance outcomes for patients requiring pacemakers. As this technique evolves, SWFT hopes to establish itself as leaders in this field.

Roger Beadle, Cardiology Consultant at SWFT said ‘This was a big step forward for the Pacing Department at SWFT and a great opportunity for our team to collaborate with experts in the field to enhance the service we offer to our patients’.

Four cases were successfully conducted on the day, aiming to enhance the teams expertise. The ultimate goal is to position Warwick Hospital as a research site for a significant multicentre trial, demonstrating the effectiveness of this ground-breaking technique.

To support the development of the Trust’s Cardiology Services, the Trust has recently invested in a total refurbishment of the Cardiac Catheter Lab at Warwick Hospital.

As part of this upgrade, the Trust has installed new equipment and increased the space within the department, creating an additional procedure room, enabling all cardiology clinical interventions to be in a single location.
