Father pedals the cotswolds for birth centre appeal

A father from Kineton in Warwickshire is taking on a 100 mile cycle tour to raise money for the Birth & Babies Appeal.

Keith James and his wife Jenny James had their first child Evelyn in 2016. Keith said: “She was in so much of a rush to meet us that she was born six weeks premature. We were extremely fortunate with the care and attention that Warwick Hospital and the special care baby unit gave us during this time”.

Keith wanted to give something back to Warwick Hospital and therefore has decided to raise funds to help future families. The father plans to cycle 100 miles across the Cotswolds visiting a combination of eight breweries, pubs and distilleries. Keith added: “This challenge combines the two things I enjoy, beer and cycling ... although I think will save the beer until the end!”

The midwife led birthing centre at Warwick Hospital is due to open to women from August 2018. The Birth & Babies Appeal has just reached the half way point towards raising the £200,000 for enhancements beyond NHS standard for the centre including items such as birthing pools for each room and specialist birthing equipment.

Keith’s challenge is taking place on 18th August and he is hoping to raise £500 through his crowd funding page at: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/evies-cotswold-brewery-cycle

In addition to the cycle Keith and his wife are putting on a raffle in July, following kind donations of prizes from breweries offering brewery tour tickets and gift packs of beer. Jenny James has also received tickets for Warwick Castle, cinema tickets for Spa Centre and a family pass for Charlecote Park. If you are a local business and want to support the raffle then follow their Crowd Funding page and get in touch.

Any support that you are able to give to the Birth & Babies Appeal would be greatly appreciated, please contact charity@swft.nhs.uk or call 01926 495321 ext. 8049 to discuss fundraising.
