Fundraiser shaves head for Warwick Hospital's Breast Unit

On Tuesday 4 April, Warwick Hospital’s Helen Clarke Suite was presented money from Heather Riley thanks to fundraising efforts.

The money was raised through sponsorship from Heather shaving her hair off and giving it to a wig maker. The head shave was documented on Heather’s YouTube channel to show her supporters the deed being done.

Heather Riley said: “The Helen Clarke Suite doesn’t make you feel like just another number. It’s only a small place but it means the world to me. They’ve been really good to me and my husband. I hope it is enough to make a difference. I want to make courtyard something special, even when the world around seems bleak.”

Heather, who lives in Stratford, was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2016 and is still undergoing treatment.

All the money raised will go towards landscaping the gardens and she wishes for there to be some winter flowering cherries that will be “delicate, beautiful, surviving and brighten the grey days.”

Upon presenting the money, Sian Corrie, Nurse Specialist on Helen Clarke Suite, said, “We are delighted that Heather fundraised for the Helen Clarke Suite and thanks to donations like this we hope to make the Suite the best it can be for our patients.”

Heather managed to raise £2,048.17 for the Suite which is more than double her initial target of £1000, with more money coming in every day.

In attendance was Heather and her husband John, along with nurse specialists Sian Corrie and Helen Millage. This money will be of benefit to the patients of the Helen Clarke Suite by giving them a beautiful calm place with blossoms through every season.
