Marathon Mum runs for Maternity

A Warwick-based lawyer and mum has run the London Marathon to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Warwick Hospital and the new Midwife Led Unit Birth & Babies Appeal.

Nisha Williams has raised around £900 for Warwick Hospital’s Maternity Services. Nisha’s daughter, Elina, was born prematurely at Warwick Hospital in August 2016 and spent the first days of her life in the SCBU.

Nisha said: “My daughter and I received much-needed care and support from the staff at Warwick Hospital during this happy but difficult time. We want to help raise funds to say thank you and hope that it will help to ensure that other families receive the same high level of care”.

This marathon was a challenge for Nisha due to illness and injury and she has been training hard whilst looking after her nine month old daughter with the help and support of husband, Duncan Williams.

Michelle Waterfall, Acting Deputy Head of Midwifery at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, upon receiving the donation, said: “We are delighted that Nisha has managed to raise so much for Maternity at Warwick Hospital, I do not envy her running so far and the money will make a huge difference to improving our services”.

The funds will go towards special baby cribs and stands rather than standard plastic cots in the new Midwife Led Unit as well as upgrading furnishings to make it feel homely and developing a therapeutic room for parents to use and enhancements to SCBU.
