Urgent Care in South Warwickshire this Winter

Health providers in south Warwickshire are committed to providing safe, effective services for our local communities.

Coronavirus has had a huge impact of all aspects of healthcare. The pandemic bought new challenges and demands which all healthcare providers had to respond to quickly. As a result of this South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust and South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group, temporarily closed the Minor Injuries Unit at Stratford Hospital and the First Aid Centre at Ellen Badger Hospital. This was to ensure staff could care for patients where they were most needed.

Covid-19 is still affecting how healthcare services are run and it will do for the foreseeable future. Having the right staff available to work in critical areas is key to managing coronavirus effectively and ensures patients have access to the right care at the right time. Therefore the Minor Injuries Unit and First Aid Centre will remain closed so that the Trust can continue to re-deploy staff and maintain robust safety measures, including COVID free sites whenever possible.

To ensure health services in south Warwickshire can meet the needs of our population, consideration is being given to how we use best use the Minor Injuries Unit at Stratford Hospital and the First Aid Centre at Ellen Badger Hospital in the future. This work is in its very early stages and we do not know what all potential options are until we have listened to the views of local people. Only after we have fully engaged with our local population will a decision be made.

There are lots of services available for our communities to ensure they stay well this winter. If you require urgent, but not life-threatening medical advice NHS 111 or local pharmacies are available. Pharmacists offer expert advice for many common winter ailments such as coughs and colds, sinusitis, earaches and sore throats. If you need treatment for a serious accident and emergency, such as unconsciousness, heavy blood loss, suspected heart attack, stroke broken bones, please visit the Emergency Department at Warwick Hospital.
