Wheelchair gift from Leamington Round Table & 41 Club

Feldon Ward at Leamington Spa Hospital has been gifted £3200 to purchase 11 new wheelchairs for their patients.

The Leamington Round Table and 41 Club made the donation with the bequeathed funds of Harry Prue, a Leamington Spa resident. Harry received seasonal food parcels from Leamington Round Table in the 1960’s and subsequently bequeathed a proportion of his estate to Leamington Round Table in his will when he died in 1967. Over the next 49 years the invested money grew to over £14,000.

Andrew Savage, member of the Leamington 41 Club, said: “Harry Prue’s gift has benefited so many people, many community requests and food parcels were funded by his generosity before the fund was dissolved and allocated to local good causes.”

The donation will be used to purchase 11 new wheelchairs on Feldon Ward at Leamington Spa Hospital. The majority of patients on the stroke unit are elderly and require a wheelchair temporarily for mobility purposes whilst undergoing rehabilitation.

Upon receiving the donation, Bridgit Vorster-Gibbons, Principal Occupational Therapist, said: “Wheelchairs enable patients to access the therapy gym, the garden and outdoors, also our cafe and social activities in the hospital i.e. art groups, film clubs, mindfulness and the Oasis room. These will be so useful to allow our patients undergoing treatment to move freely around the hospital.”
