Going the Extra Mile at Trust annual meeting

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) has once again recognised the value of exceptional staff at their Annual Members Meeting (AMM).

The event, which is attended by the Members of the Trust as well as the public, is the ideal platform to announce the annual ‘Going the Extra Mile’ (GEM) award winners.

GEM Awards are presented to staff in three categories; clinical, non-clinical and team, on a quarterly basis. Nominations can be made by colleagues and members of the public and are an opportunity to recognise individuals and teams that go above and beyond the call of duty to enable the Trust to provide great care for patients. All winners throughout the year are then automatically entered into the Annual Gem Awards.

On the day the Trust’s Chairman, Russell Hardy and Chief Executive, Glen Burley presented the awards.

Megan Nannfeldt, Staff Nurse on Chadwick Ward at Leamington Spa Hospital won the clinical Annual GEM Award. Megan received the award for her work mentoring a group of Clinical Support Workers (CSW’s) to achieve their “Care Certificate”. The Care Certificate is the assessment of 15 standards set by the Department of Health for all new CSW's.

Carole Maguire, Administrator for the Leg Ulcer Clinic received the non-clinical Annual GEM Award. Carol won the award for her compassionate and helpful attitude toward patients and colleagues making their needs her priority.

The winning team at the Annual Gem Awards was the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department at Warwick Hospital. The A&E Department has been recognised nationally for their work in achieving some of the best treatment rates in the country. Patients and visitors have also commented on the friendly and helpful nature of A&E Staff.

Russell Hardy, Chairman said: “It is a pleasure to present the Annual GEM Awards for a second consecutive year. It is important we recognise the great lengths our staff members go to help make a difference to patients and colleagues. These winners are from a range of roles and disciplines but all are a credit to our organisation and very clearly demonstrate a commitment to our values of delivering Safe, Effective, Compassionate care.”
